Ella Kerrisk is not only awe-inspiring and well-rounded as a teenager, but she is also the perfect billboard for successful homeschooling. At just 16 years old, Ella has already accomplished more than most people as a professional photographer. She advertises her photography services online and is also currently taking classes for graphic design at Lanier Technical College. Not only does she take pictures, but Ella also teaches photography to school-aged kids through her 4-H club. On the weekends she works with a horse therapy program for special needs children. In fact, using her empathy and patience to photograph children that others don't always treat so nice is her specialty.
At home, it is her mother who encouraged turning her hobby into a business when she insisted that Ella study photography at the University of North Georgia. For Heather Kerrisk developing her children's unique interests was an essential part of homeschooling and it continues to serve them well. Ella credits homeschooling, and it's flexibility, for where she is today.
This story is impressive in that I had to keep reminding myself that Ella is only 16 years old. When we take off the training wheels of the social constraints that are built into traditional schooling, the sky becomes the limit. Keep up the good work Ella!
