This is part of our Creative Writing: Finding Your Voice series, where kids were encouraged to free write and let whatever snippets/scenarios come alive on the page. by Taylor Cole When Liam moved in on the block, he knew he was different. Strange things had been happening. The neighbors never spoke to him. Liam thought everyone in the neighborhood looked odd, except for one girl, who lived across the street from him. He had never spoken to her, nor did he intend to, but that all changed one Thursday in October when Liam followed the girl. He watched and followed as she climbed around a cliff. Then he saw something even stranger. She flew up to a cliff above. Liam was amazed. He had to see where she was going. He climbed the cliff after her but couldn’t find her. It was as if she had disappeared. All of a sudden she appeared right in front of him. Liam fell onto the ground. “Hello Liam, I’ve been waiting,” she said in a British accent. “I will teach you how to fly,” she said. “Um…..no,” Liam stammered. “Well too bad because you’re going to learn!” “I can’t fly,” Liam yelled. She jumped down, “You won’t know until you try,” she shouted up to him on the ledge. He was pretty sure he couldn’t fly, not yet at least, but she had been flying for nearly ten years now and she believed in him. He jumped and fell face first on the ground. “Another one bites the dust!” she happily shouted. Liam got up with a bloody nose. He now thought she was odd. Maybe the neighborhood wasn’t a normal neighborhood but was actually on Mars! Then Liam woke up, it must have all been a dream. Or was it? Liam decided to go across the street to visit the girl. When he rang the doorbell, the girl’s father opened the door. “Hello sir,” Liam said.
