Homeschooling Heroes is a resource for families seeking educational and field trip opportunities outside of the co-op structure. There are no fees or time commitments beyond the courses and events you choose to sign up for. All homeschooling and unschooling families are welcome to join. The group has no political, religious or schooling preference. It is a place to share every variety of opportunity and appreciate differences. The goal here is to help you homeschool and win all around by offering exceptional educational and extracurricular opportunities for homeschoolers and their parents - focused on freedom, friendship and fun! Why "heroes" - read here!
As a homeschooling parent running a home-based business who has lived in three states in the past eight years, I've seen some things - as we all have. Some of it has been great, some not so great, but all of it has been instructive. This website shares local events and activities (from group classes to field trips), homeschool tips, observations and questions (from both new and veteran homeschoolers), along with an ever-expanding list of niche groups and co-ops (focused on Louisiana right now, but all are welcome to submit info and it will be shared free of charge!) - and, newly created and most exciting of all: The Homeschool Times!
We've just formed an Unschool Board focused on fundraising to lower the cost of the wonderful activities that we facilitate with a variety of vendors - and to provide financial aid for families needing a bit more assistance! Be sure to join our group on Facebook, follow our page on Facebook or follow along on our Unschool Blog for updates! And you can see these fantastic kids in action on our very active Instagram account. We definitely shatter the socialization myth there!
We plan to expand beyond New Orleans, which is currently our home base, and offer Homeschooling Heroes satellite locations across the United States in time!
Current and upcoming individual and group offerings include robotics, 3D design and printing, metalworking, archery, creative writing, art history, martial arts, crossfit, STEM workshops, astronomy, celestial navigation, forensics, choir, Vedic philosophy, yoga, surrealism, wood working, WW2, French, piano, guitar, junior mechanics, finance for teens, pre-alegbra and logic, drama, screenwriting, public speaking, cooking, farming (on an actual farm), and many more - all led by adults trained in these fields. We have doctors, diesel mechanics, scientists, teachers, yogis, business owners, farmers, technologists, a ship captain, an actress/talent agent, wood workers, writers, broadcasters and a variety of other experts among our parents and contacts - and we've recruited all those listed (and more) to teach multiage group sessions. It's pretty incredible to see in action. Hope you join us!
