Whitney Plantation is the only plantation museum in Louisiana with an exclusive focus on the lives of enslaved people. Students will learn about the history of slavery on a Louisiana sugarcane plantation through a guided 90-minute walking tour. Visit Whitney’s memorials and restored buildings to enter the world of a Louisiana sugar plantation and to remember those who built and worked this property. On your walking tour, your guide shows you through slave cabins, a freedmen’s church, detached kitchen and outbuildings, a 1790s owner’s house and memorials built to honor the enslaved.
Educators who have not visited our site previously, and are planning on bringing young visitors, should be aware that history of slavery is a mature subject. We recommend that you review our website and our online reviews in advance and exercise your discretion.
*This is not intended for 5 and under, but you're welcome to bring young children provided you pay the per child fee. Thank you!
Note there is a $2-$3 fee added, depending on final amount, to account for 2.9% + .30 fee charged to HSH for payment collection, and for taxes charged by the facility.
***nonrefundable unless class is cancelled
