LIGO
Join us on our 11/7 visit to LIGO Livingston. It's home to one of LIGO's two gravitational wave detectors, our facility operates in tandem with LIGO Hanford to listen for the faint whispers of gravitational waves from the most energetic events in the universe. LIGO Livingston is also home to LIGO's Science Education Center, which hosts schools, teacher workshops, tours and monthly Science Saturdays - where the public is invited to explore the science and engineering that underpin our quest to study the universe via gravitational waves.
LIGO's Science Education Center is a unique field trip opportunity that allows students to interact with scientists and engineers doing real science, and to experience hands on science through our interactive exhibit hall.
Time: 1:30-3:30pm -- MUST ARRIVE AT 1PM
- consists of a tour and time visiting our exhibit hall which consists of 50 interactive science exhibits (a mini-science museum)!
Cost: LIGO is FREE- field trip participation costs $2 per family to confirm your spot. Why the fee? Pls read our FAQs: http://www.homeschoolingheroes.com/faqs.html
Number of students: 60 or less total.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Vehicles MUST REMAIN ON SITE DURING THE FIELD TRIP. LIGO Livingston is in a remote location & we are sensitive to vibrations, therefore for the safety of the children and in order to keep LIGO's instrument working well, adults MUST remain on-site with their school-children while at LIGO.
Be sure to check out resources on the website ahead of the tour so kids can participate in the Q&A with LIGO Scientists!
