This is part of our Creative Writing: Finding Your Voice series, where kids were encouraged to free write and let whatever snippets/scenarios come alive on the page. by Karen and Lynn I was born to an Okos father and an Ardloth mother, a marriage forbidden by the high priests. My birth was secret to all but a few, and those were the women who had assisted in the birth. These are the women that help raise me away from civilization, the women that helped me learn to read and write. They are my pride and joy, my family figures I never had. Today is my fifteenth birthday. The day I can celebrate! Martha, one of the women, put of streamers in my room, and Kat made a cake! Oh, it's a delicious cake, the best one I've had! We danced, and danced, we even had cookies. This is my best, happiest memory!
