Homeschooling is a big step for most families. Especially for those who are considering it, but don't know where to start. Laws vary by each individual state. Each state has a specific set of rules that must be followed in order to homeschool your child/children. It's important to adhere to the rules of your state to be in compliance. Arizona is no exception! Even though the regulations seem small compared to other states, you must still comply and do what is asked if you wish to homeschool. File the correct paperwork and use the chosen curriculum. The rest is up to you!

I consider myself still relatively new to this homeschooling thing even though we’ve done it for almost two school years and have been through several different methods and platforms. One thing I’m learning through it all though is that homeschooling requires an odd, delicate balance. Odd because it’s inconsistent and forever changing. Delicate because it’s so sensitive, that the consequences can be dire if the scale is allowed to tip too far into one extreme or the other.

Yes, this is going to be another I-love-homeschooling post. When I say 'Y'all' though, I'm not talking about you, the reader. I'm talking about non-homeschoolers who are determined to keep everyone in the traditional box. As annoying as they can be sometimes, I'm always grateful for these little reminders of why I homeschool.

I wish I knew then what I know now. What am I talking about? I’m talking about the natural way kids learn to read, and enjoy it, versus the way it is forced on them today. I am grateful for where my son is now in his reading ability, but I cringe when I think about how it has been a struggle for him and how I didn’t make it any easier. In this post, I share our reading story.

This morning I got a burst of warm, fuzzy encouragement from reading a post by a fellow homeschooling mom in my state homeschooling group. Sydney Miller stated that homeschooling is a lifestyle choice and went on to explain why it was about more than just the educational benefits for her family. Then a host of other moms sound off as well. I thought I’d share her message and list the common themes that came out of the discussion. This post can be a source of encouragement for you as well. Or if you have disapproving family members who still don’t get it, send them here! |
