English is difficult enough! Deciding to expand your language knowledge beyond that is an exciting decision. Adding a foreign language to a homeschoolers curriculum can seem intimidating. Don’t sweat it! There are online resources available to all that can certainly get a student started. Learn foreign languages with these free online resources for homeschooling students. Once the decision is made to add a foreign language to semester course work, now the choice of which language is in question! Search through these resources to discover various language resources and choose what to learn!
Duolingo
Learning a different language is made easy with Duolingo. They offer lesson plans in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch and Japanese. Duolingo uses a unique way to teach through an impressive gaming technique to make learning the language effective and fun.
Open Culture
Open Culture’s website claims that you can learn 48 languages. The website pulls resources from around the web and compiles them onto one web page for easy access to numerous resources. Lessons can be found in videos on Youtube, audio book format, digital text via PDF among many other available formats.
Learn a Language
Learn to speak, read, understand and write in foreign languages through the online resources available with Learn a Language. Each language carries lessons in words, verbs, phrases and within the courses you will find lessons, games, quizzes and the ability to track progress.
The Travel Linguist
There are plenty of resources on YouTube to help with simple foreign phrases, but The Travel Linguist’s YouTube channel offers more! It provides “101” video information on learning varies languages, which leads to the parent website where other free resources can be found. Premium courses are also offered starting at under $5.
Babble
Babble is an app available on smartphones and tablets including iPhone and Android. The app offers ‘bite sized’ lessons, flexible learning, easy course managing and speech recognition. |
