Child racing prodigy, Joey Logano - while driving anything he could get his young hands - zipping around race tracks racking in wins and setting himself up for maximum success. Homeschooling allowed him the focus he needed to have for racing strategy and to hone his driving skills. He became the first homescholar to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup series race and at nineteen-years-old became the youngest winner ever in the series.

Tim Tebow is the youngest of five homeschooled children in his family and is dyslexic. This led him to believe that uniqueness is a gift - he has sufficiently used that belief to his advantage. As a former NFL first-round draft pick quarterback with an extensive football career and a current Minor League Baseball outfielder, Tim Tebow has numerous accomplishments under his belt. He has become the first homeschooled athlete to be nominated for the Heisman Trophy, which he won.

“There is no school equal to a decent home and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent.” This stands, one hundred percent true when we talk about David Karp, the genius who did not need a school name to his credit to become the founder of the coolest blogging and social networking website - “Tumblr”.

This week’s Homeschooling Heroes are very much like another group highlighted not long ago, the Jonas brothers. This group of brothers has a totally different story however. What they do have in common, unlike a lot of musicians that left school because of fame, is that they were homeschooled from the beginning. Read on to learn about the Hanson Brothers.

The world has returned it’s focus to the world of figure skating due to the epic biopic that came out late last year about Tonya Harding. As unbelievably funny as certain parts of the movie were, a lot of the realities of her upbringing were heart-breaking and sad. Tonya was raised by an abusive mother and bullied all throughout school. The saddest part is that she never got to realize her dream of becoming an Olympic champion. So on a happier note, I’d like to feature another famous figure skater from that period who was homeschooled and went on to be ranked as the most decorated figure skater in the U.S. Our Homeschooling Hero today is Michelle Kwan. by Leslie Fobbs When I first learned that Condoleezza Rice was homeschooled, I was disappointed to find out that it was only for a year because of where her birthday landed for starting first grade. I dismissed it as not really homeschooling. After learning about Ryan Gosling, who also only stayed at home for a year, and reading more about Ms. Rice, I now feel differently. Homeschooling is valid no matter the reason, method, or length of time. Condoleezza’s homeschool story is especially inspiring when viewed with her future accomplishments in mind. Today’s celebrity homeschooling heroes involve another set of siblings. They are three brothers - Nick, Joe, and Kevin - who make up the members of the popular boy band from the early 2000s, The Jonas Brothers. I have to admit I didn’t know much about them back then, but I always appreciate learning about famous homeschoolers who chose to be out of the box even before becoming well-known. Read on to learn more about the brothers' humble beginnings. |
