by Christina Yeager

Tim Tebow is the youngest of five homeschooled children in his family and is dyslexic. This led him to believe that uniqueness is a gift - he has sufficiently used that belief to his advantage. As a former NFL first-round draft pick quarterback with an extensive football career and a current Minor League Baseball outfielder, Tim Tebow has numerous accomplishments under his belt. He has become the first homeschooled athlete to be nominated for the Heisman Trophy, which he won.

Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow credits homeschooling and faith to his success.

Tim is a strong advocate in homeschooled students seeking comparable access to high school athletic programs by arguing in favor of these students being allowed to play for local teams in more states.

Homeschooling
Mr. Tebow was born in 1987 in the Philippines, to a homeschooling family of Christian missionaries. The Tebow's began their homeschool adventure in 1982, well before Tim was born. The family was living in Florida in 1996 when the laws restraining homeschooled students from participating in public school athletic programs were lifted.

He states his parents...

“wanted us to learn reading, writing and arithmetic, but it wasn't No. 1. It wasn't the most important thing. They wanted to instill love in our hearts, love for God, love for one another. They wanted us to be able to learn a work ethic, a dedication."
--Tim Tebow

Tim entered a football program at Christian academy and eventually a local high school and led his team to a state championship. This would kick-start his impending football career.

He recently published a book about his homeschooling experience with hopes to encourage other homeschooled students.

Accomplishments
His love for the sport and his belief in God would propel him to advance his University of Florida team to two championships earning that him Heisman Trophy mentioned before. However, that wasn't the only "first" involved there. He was also the first sophomore to ever win.

“That’s really cool. A lot of times people have this stereotype of home-schoolers as not very athletic — it’s like, go win a spelling bee or something like that. It’s an honor for me to be the first one to do that.”
--Tim Tebow

This caught the attention of some national teams. Tim Tebow was the first round pick selected for the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft. He played two years with the Broncos, then moved on to the New York Jets. He also played preseason games with the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Today
Tim Tebow has embarked upon a journey in baseball following his extensive and declining football career.

In 2016, Tim signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets. During his first at-bat with the team, he hit a home run on the first pitch. This led the Mets to place Tebow within the Scottsdale Scorpions and then later moved him to the Columbia Fireflies.

Mr. Tebow was promoted to the St. Lucie Mets in 2017.

More recently, Tim has been invited to a major league camp. He was promoted to the Mets Double-A team and even played in the Eastern League All-Star game. Unfortunately, it's been announced that he suffered a hand injury that would most likely put him out of the remaining season.

Hopefully, after a full recovery, Tim Tebow can become a household name within MLB!

Tim published “Know Who You Are, Live Like It Matters” early in 2018. His book is meant to give support to homeschooled students who may be struggling with their identity.
