Damn, It Feels Good to be a Homeschooler

Today I’m just full of happiness and energy. We have SUCH an epic hackschool year planned for the kids in our group!

Hackschool? Yes! It’s when you piece together a bunch of things that work for your child/family/life to participate in exceptional educational and extracurricular opportunities. And in our group we not only participate in them, we CREATE them!

You can read our super long newsletter detailing them all - it was just sent out to our homeschool friends, but here’s a summary of what’s in store for our group activities:
  • Middle School Math, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2
  • Comic book creation
  • Acting for TV & Film (at an actual studio with casting agents)
  • Theatrical Shenanigans
  • Creative Writing
  • Latin
  • Sports-based PE
  • Makerspace STEM classes
  • FIRST Lego Robotics teams (two of them)
  • Kidpreneur Club
  • Make It & Break It Lego Club
  • Sewing
  • Choir
  • History’s Mysteries
  • CSI Club
  • Young Readers’ Living History Group
  • Science Fair Prep
  • 4H Club
  • Celestial Navigation
  • Artist Studio
  • Kids’ Crossfit
  • Nerf Wars
  • Archery
  • Target Practice
  • Book Club
And then all the parties? My goodness, the parties. Not Back to School (we have like 3 scheduled! haha!) and then Halloween is AMAZING, along with all of the holiday celebrations. Christmas, everything. And the dances we host? Our 80s Dance Party was so much fun, and the upcoming Masquerade Ball promises to be that, and more. And who knows what to expect from our Roaring 20s Dance Party? Who knows???

All of that though is nothing when stacked beside the incredible friendships we’ve made with SO many different people though - people we just would not have met otherwise. The socioeconomic diversity is a sight to behold. There’s nothing homogenous about our group, we’re a band of misfits and we wouldn’t have it any other way! We'll be writing about those differences more as the year progresses, but mostly we'll be sharing the similarities - the unexpected and wonderful connections we make all the time with those in our group and in the larger community around us - and why hackschooling isn't just an option for us, it's everything.

Damn, it feels good to be a homeschooler.

Off we go!
