Racing is a hard sport. It’s very intense and requires a lot of time, energy, and effort. You also gotta have a stomach for it. A lot of the racers travel at speeds up to 200 miles an hour! People rarely make it into NASCAR and when they do it takes a long time to get their name out there because of the fierce competition. This wasn’t the case for 18 year old Hailie Deegan. Hailie Deegan only homeschooled for one year prior to completing her high school education, but it allowed her to practice, which could lead to a prominent career in Nascar.

Deegan competes full time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and competes part time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, an outstanding accomplishment for someone of her age.

History
Hailie was born on July 18, 2001 in Temecula California. She is the daughter of Brian and Marissa Deegan. Brian is a professional freestyle motocross rider.

Homeschool Life
Hailie chose to do homeschooling so she could focus on her racing career. Brian and Marissa both took part in homeschooling Hailie.

Hailie describes life as a homeschooler as relaxed. A lot of her friends and social life exists on the race track. She stated that homeschooling made it easier for her to hang out with friends.

“I was homeschooled at that moment too. Since I’m constantly travelling with my family I’m always with them. Those three things together make it easy.”
- Hailie Deegan

Homeschooling also made it easier for Hailie to pursue her desire for NASCAR racing.

Achievements
At the age of eight she competed in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and became the first woman to win a championship at the event. She became the Modified Kart Regional Champion in 2015. She then became the Modified Kart National Champion the year after that. Deegan was the only woman who competed full time in either 2018 K&N Series.

Currently
Deegan continues to compete and pursue her career in NASCAR racing.
